Frequently Asked Questions
General Questions
- Q. How do your products compare with those of Avion Research ?
- A. Avion's kits are typically more involved than our products, introducing things like new switches, new glareshields and re-mounting of the avionics stack in a new structure. AircraftPanel.com's packages are designed to be installed in the least amount of time possible, with as little effect on the structure as possible.
- Q. Are your products STC'ed ?
- A. We are currently working with a Designated Engineering Representative (D.E.R.) to obtain STCs for most of out products. Prices on STC-approved products will be higher than their non-STC'ed counterparts.
- Q. What are "Owner-produced parts" ?
- A. There is an excellent article written by Bill O'Brien, an Airworthiness Aviation Safety Inspector in the FAA's Flight Standards Service, regarding Owner-Produced Parts. The article may be found at the following URL: http://www.faa.gov/avr/afs/news/archive/julyaugust/IvsWe.htm.
We believe that iour products meet the requirements for owner-produced parts as the owner is responsible for "providing quality control procedures to make the part" via our stencil template system. This system is used by us to manfacture the parts to the owner's specifications (design data), thus providing for two out of the five conditions required to meet the FAA requirements for owner-produced parts.
- Q. How do I get one of your panels approved in my aircraft ?
- A. At the request of the buyer, supporting documentation suitable for FAA form 337 approval when the design is completed. This includes various technical drawings as well as installation instructions.
- Q. Will this documentation be acceptable to my mechanic and/or my local FSDO ?
- A. We believe so, but as always there are no two mechanics who like to work the same way, and your local FAA FSDO. Do your homework before purchasing as refunds will not be issued once the technical information is released to the buyer at the time of purchase.

Product Specfic Questions
Cessna Skyhawk 172N/P, R172K Hawk XP
- Q. What controls do I need to remove in order to install the lower switch panel overlay?
- A. Our unique three part design requires that only the primer plunger, cigar lighter and the electrical switches be disconnected prior to installation. The engine and ventilation controls only need to be loosened-up for the installation to proceed. This explains the short (two hour) installation time required..
